One small difference between two seemingly identical images can change the meaning radically. Tibetan iconography is in many ways similar to the medieval stained glass windows--a way to teach others about their faith without using words.

This was first published in the interdisciplinary magazine Kailash in Kathmandu in February 1975. In this Revised and Expanded Edition, the line drawings have been reproduced and the introduction and the translations of the prayers of homage have been revised.
